Since 2018, I have watched firsthand the shift in our state house—from a nearly evenly divided chamber where compromise and common-sense guided decisions, to the current lopsided, left-leaning governance. With an expanded supermajority and political appointees filling key roles, government often seems to run on autopilot. What many suspect is happening is, in fact, happening: backroom deals without proper vetting or robust debate in committee, politicians who appear to believe their constituents are not paying attention, a troubling lack of urgency on clear problems, and, most painfully, a callous approach to spending other people’s hard-earned money. Seeing the process up close—first as a legislator and now as legislative staff—has been truly eye-opening.
One of the most effective ways I can shine a light on these issues and help restore accountability in Hartford is to serve once again as a state legislator. In January 2013 I walked into our beautiful Capitol as an elected official determined to fight for fairness, insist that government live within its means, and protect our treasured natural resources. I was also, in many ways, naïve about how the system truly works.
I want to walk back into the Capitol in January 2027 as a seasoned, homegrown legislator, someone with the experience and the courage to stand up to the bureaucrats who so often control the purse strings. I know I can help shake things up in Hartford for the right reasons. With the retirement of our current representative, the timing feels right. Why not run again?
I am running because I believe we must always put our small-town values first. We live in a special part of Connecticut—communities built on volunteers, scenic vistas and special places, and quiet pride in the places we call home. We do not need another Hartford “yes” person who is still getting to know our three towns and who doesn’t pay her fair share. My ability to go to Hartford and remain a truly independent voice—while deeply understanding our communities is unmatched. I will focus on protecting our scenic vistas and special places, bringing radical transparency to our state budget process, helping seniors, and keeping education decisions local are all things I care deeply about.
